Jennifer D. Turner, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in Reading Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research and teaching focus on culturally responsive literacy teachers and teaching for African American elementary students, and the preparation of elementary teachers for diversity. She has published several book chapters and articles appearing in Literacy Research and Instruction, Action in Teacher Education, Academic Exchange Quarterly, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and The Reading Teacher, among others. Her research has been supported by an Elva Knight Research Grant from the International Reading Association, the Maryland Institute for Minority Achievement and Urban Education, the Global Awareness in Teacher Education (GATE) Fellowship at the University of Maryland, the American Educational Research Association, and the Michigan State University Spencer Research Training Grant Fellowship. Currently Dr. Turner serves as co-editor of the Literacy Leadership column in The Reading Teacher and is on the Board of Directors for the Literacy Research Association (formerly the National Reading Conference).
