In this webinar, Joan Fretz explains how to develop an inviting school with a new book as your guide. Joan had the honor of co-authoring Developing Inviting Schools: A Beneficial Framework for Teaching and Leading with Drs. William Purkey and John Novak, the creators of Invitational Education. This simple framework helps educators to understand how everyone and everything in your school messages staff, students and caregivers that they are able, valuable and responsible, or they are not. The people, places, policies, programs, and processes of a school influence our self-concept, which in turn, influences our choices of behavior. Through an inviting lens, staff begin to understand that they are really not in charge of the meaning of their messages to others. We may set an intent and choose our words and actions. However, it is the receiver of our message that gives it meaning.
Included in the webinar are ways to get started, activities to use with staff to introduce Invitational Education, and like-minded strategies that will help you create a “doing with” rather than a “doing to” approach in your school.
