Decoteau J. Irby is an associate professor at University of Illinois at Chicago’s Department of Educational Policy Studies. His research explores how equity-focused school leadership can be used as a lever to improve Black children and youth’s academic achievement and socioemotional well-being across a range of K–12 educational settings. He is the author of Stuck Improving: Racial Equity and School Leadership (2021), a children’s picture book Magical Black Tears: A Protest Story (2021), and co-editor of Black Participatory Research: Power, Identity, and the Struggle for Justice in Education (2016).
