Vivian Maria Vasquez is a professor of education at American University. She was a preschool and elementary school teacher for 14 years. She received her doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington. Her work focuses on critical literacies and the use of digital tools in ECE. She has published nine books, including the award-winning Negotiating Critical Literacies with Young Children, and received honors and awards from major professional organizations, including NCTE and AERA, where she has held appointive and elected positions.
Vivian Maria Vasquez has won the NCTE Outstanding Elementary Educator in the English Language Arts Award for 2019.
