STEPHEN J. CALDAS is professor of education in the Department of Foundations, Leadership and Policy Studies at Hofstra University. He is the author of the book Raising Bilingual-Biliterate Children in Monolingual Cultures (2006). He has co-authored three previous books with Carl L. Bankston III, including Forced to Fail: The Paradox of School Desegregation (2007) and A Troubled Dream: The Promise and Failure of School Desegregation in Louisiana (2002). Stephen has authored or co-authored more than 60 articles and book chapters. His research interests include the social, policy, and legal contexts of education. He also conducts research in socio/psycholinguistics and bilingual education.
