Sharan A. Gibson

Sharan A. Gibson

Sharan A. Gibson, PhD, is professor emeritus of literacy education at San Diego State University. She served as graduate advisor for the MA in reading and reading specialist credential programs at SDSU, and director of the SDSU Community Reading Clinic. Sharan has worked in Reading Recovery® since 1992, is a member of the North American Trainers Group, and served as trainer of teacher leaders and director of the SDSU Reading Recovery program, lead editor of Literacy Teaching and Learning, and section editor of the Journal of Reading Recovery. Her research is focused on Reading Recovery teacher expertise, teachers’ professional noticing ability, literacy coaching, and children’s writing development and instruction. Sharan has also served as classroom teacher, mentor teacher, reading specialist, Reading Recovery teacher and teacher leader, early literacy consultant, and classroom literacy coach. She has published numerous articles and presents at local, state, and national conferences.
