Rodney T. Ogawa is Professor of Education and Director of the Center for Educational Research in the Interest of Underserved Students (CERIUS) at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Rodney’s research has focused on how and with what consequences school organizations adapt to educational policies. Currently, his research examines how and with what consequences the social structures of educational organizations are associated with the learning contexts they present and thus instructional interactions and educational outcomes. This work seeks to combine research and theory from the learning sciences and organization sciences to understand how educational organizations, such as schools and interactive science centers, can foster student learning with a particular focus on students from low-income and culturally non-dominant communities. Rodney’s most recent work has been published in Educational Researcher, American Educational Research Journal, Review of Educational Research, Harvard Education Review, Science Education, and Teachers College Record. Rodney served as Vice President of Division A of the American Educational Research Association and currently serves on the editorial boards of the American Educational Research Journal and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. Rodney has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the Roald Campbell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the academic field of educational leadership by the University Council for Educational Administration.
