Robin C. Scarcella

Robin C. Scarcella is a professor in the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine, and director of the Program in Academic English. Scarcella is a linguist who specializes in strategies for accelerating the academic English of ELs, also the title of her most recent book (2003). She has contributed to the creation of California’s ELD Standards, served as an expert panelist for a What Works Clearinghouse practice guide on research-based practices for teaching ELs (Gersten et al., 2007), and written over 25 journal articles and four books.
