For Mary Hynes-Berry, stories are like chicken soup—they are bound to make things better. She can’t say enough about all she has gained from listening to and telling stories in the context of her family. In the same way, the three-plus decades she has spent doing oral storytelling in classrooms taught her so much about what a powerful tool stories can be to spark learning across the curriculum. Stories have proved an equally important tool for the work she does in professional development and with preservice teachers as a faculty member at Erikson Institute, a graduate school in child development.
