Mary E. Gardner, MA, is a retired school district superintendent and has been an educational leader, lecturer, and consultant for more than 40 years. While in graduate school at UC Berkeley, she was a research assistant to Anne Dyson and authored articles on early literacy. She is also a coauthor of The Constructivist Leader (1995, 2002) and Women’s Ways of Leading (2009). Mary was an invited visiting practitioner at Harvard University in 1988–1989. She taught educational leadership at California State University, East Bay, and San Jose State University. She has continued to influence the field of women’s leadership, organizational development, and literacy. Her multimedia workshops, seminars, and keynote speeches have placed her in demand as an exemplary woman leader. Mary’s remarkable contributions have been acknowledged through awards such as Soroptimist’s Women of Distinction and California school administrators’ Women of the Year. She has served on five nonprofit boards. Mary lives in San Jose, California.
