Marlee S. Bunch

Interdisciplinary educator

Marlee S. Bunch is an interdisciplinary educator with well over a decade of teaching experience. She holds a doctoral degree from the University of Illinois in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership (with a concentration in diversity/equity/inclusion). She also holds a Master’s in Education and a Master’s of Science in Gifted Education. She holds a teaching certificate with endorsements in both English Language Arts and Social Studies, a Gifted Education Certification, an English Language Learner (ELL/ESL) Certification, and a Diversity and Equity Certificate.

Dr. Bunch’s experiences teaching at the secondary and postsecondary level have allowed her to write curriculum, mentor teachers, create workshops, and most importantly, support students. She has taught English Literature, Creative Writing, Adult Education, and Composition.

Her research, teaching, and scholarship seek to disrupt inequities and illuminate the power of storytelling and history. Her research examines Black female educators in Mississippi between 1954 and 1971 and the impact history and desegregation had on their lives and current day education. Dr. Bunch is a mentor for students and uses writing and history to encourage dialogue and self-reflection. She has forthcoming publications with the University of Illinois Press and a coauthored book with Routledge. She is a National Academy of Education Spencer Fellowship semi-finalist.
