Margaret H. Johnson began her career as a public school art teacher in New Hampshire, where she taught for 15 years. After completing a doctorate in art education at Florida State University, she taught art education classes at Winthrop University in South Carolina for 14 years. Dr. Johnson has been honored with a number of awards for her teaching and service, including the 1991 Outstanding Junior Professor at Winthrop University and the 1995 National Art Education Association Higher Education Division Art Educator of the Year. She was awarded Winthrop’s first Singleton Endowed Professorship in Teacher Education.
In 2001 Dr. Johnson began teaching art criticism and art education in the Art Education Program at the State University of New York (SUNY) in New Paltz, where she has also served as Art Education Program Director. Her publications focus on art criticism in the schools.
