Lane W. Clarke, EdD, is the literacy concentration leader for the online master’s in science of education at the University of New England. She enjoys working with graduate students in an online format and is always pushing herself and others to explore innovative pedagogy to increase the effectiveness of online teaching and learning. In addition to teaching online, Lane also teaches undergraduate pre-service teachers in literacy pedagogy. She has published two other books, High Tech Teaching Success (Prufrock Press, 2009, with Kevin Besnoy) and The Reading Turn Around (Teachers College Press, 2009, with Stephanie Jones and Grace Enriquez), as well as articles in journals such as The Reading Teacher, Language Arts, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Journal of Literacy Research, Journal of Media Literacy, and Kentucky Reading Journal. Her research interests include literacy education, online teaching and learning, reading comprehension, literacy and technology, and classroom discourse. In her rare free time she loves to read (not surprisingly) and spend time with her family enjoying the outdoors in Maine.
