Katie Egan Cunningham

Katie Egan Cunningham is an assistant professor in the Literacy Department in the School of Education of Manhattanville College. She was an elementary school teacher and literacy specialist in New York City before becoming a faculty member in higher education. Katie is the author of Story: Still the Heart of Literacy Learning to be published in fall 2015. She is coeditor of The Language and Literacy Spectrum, the journal of the New York State Reading Association, with her literacy colleagues. She is also coauthor of the children’s and young adult literature site The Classroom Bookshelf, and has written several articles and book chapters on children’s literature, new technologies, and professional development schools. She has also served as a Professional Development School liaison in a full-service community school of the Manhattanville Changing Suburbs Institute districts, and serves as a literacy consultant throughout the New York area, supporting teachers, literacy leaders, and administrators.
