Joni K. Falk co-directs the Center for School Reform at TERC, a nonprofit research and development institution aimed at improving math and science teaching and learning. Her work has focused on creating and researching electronic learning communities. While the communities described in this book (MSPnet and LSC-net) were developed for leaders engaged in educational change, she has also created an electronic community to connect middle and high school girls in a mentorship program with female scientists (Eyes to the Future) and is currently developing a community for higher education faculty and graduate students engaged in interdisciplinary science education (IGERT Resource Center). Her recent research interests include studying schools implementing an inquiry-based approach to science teaching and schools experimenting with ubiquitous computing environments in order to enhance science education.
