Jessica Martell is a public school teacher in New York City and an instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Jessica holds a master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY). She has 18 years of experience teaching dual-language (Spanish/English) and inclusive kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. She is a trustee of the NCTE Research Foundation, a charter member of NCTE’s Professional Dyads and Culturally Relevant Teaching program, and a member of the NCTE Task Force on Equity and Early Childhood Education. In 2014, she received NCTE’s Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award. She lives in East Harlem, New York, with her spouse and children.
