Janice A. Dole is professor of education and director of the reading and literacy program in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Utah. She has taught elementary and middle school students in Massachusetts, California, and Colorado. Her areas of research include comprehension instruction, school reform, and professional development. She has published widely in the areas of comprehension instruction and more recently in professional development and school reform. Her publications include articles in Reading Research Quarterly, Review of Educational Research, The Elementary School Journal, and The Reading Teacher. She has been a contributing consultant for over 30 years to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. She frequently consults on a national level, traveling around the country as well as internationally, speaking to teachers, literacy coaches, and administrators on reading issues.
