Janet I. Angelis is associate director of the Albany Institute for Research in Education in the University at Albany’s School of Education. Her professional career has spanned the worlds of practice and research, and she specializes in bringing the two together, developing practical materials for classroom use, finding a variety of channels for disseminating results, and working with school teachers and administrators to help them fashion opportunities for professional learning that will lead to students making greater learning and literacy gains. Her presentations and publications bridge the academic, policy, practitioner, and parent worlds, appearing, for example, in the Middle School Journal, Phi Delta Kappan, Education Week, and Our Children. She earned a B.A. in classics from Connecticut College for Women and an M.A.T. in secondary social studies from Simmons College. With Kristen Wilcox she is author of Best Practices from High-Performing Middle Schools.
