Join us for a conversation between dear friends Janine de Novais and adrienne maree brown celebrating the release of de Novais’ new book Brave Community: Teaching for a Post-Racist Imagination.
Offering a research-based method for teaching, learning and working to confront racism that empowers and edifies, and practices tested across diverse settings (schools, colleges, museums, board rooms), Brave Community: Teaching for a Post-Racist Imagination is a book for anyone who wants to tackle racism and help others to do the same.

About the Speakers:
Janine de Novais is a writer, sociologist and teacher interested in how our liberation is a cultural project, a matter of (un)learning. Her book, Brave Community, shares a method for anyone who wants to create empathetic and resilient conditions for learning about racism to intervene in it. Janine combines engaged pedagogy and the sociology of race and culture to support individuals and organizations to design multicultural change. Janine has taught at Harvard University and the University of Delaware. Before that, she was the Associate Director of Columbia University’s Center for the Core Curriculum. She was born and raised in Cabo Verde.
adrienne maree brown grows healing ideas in public through her multi-genre writing, her music and her podcasts. Informed by 25 years of movement facilitation, somatics, Octavia E Butler scholarship and her work as a doula, adrienne has nurtured Emergent Strategy, Pleasure Activism, Radical Imagination and Transformative Justice as ideas and practices for transformation. She is the author/editor of several published texts, cogenerator of a tarot deck and a developing musical ritual.
