Frank Serafini

Frank Serafini

Dr. Frank Serafini is an author, illustrator, photographer, educator, musician, and an associate professor of Literacy Education and Children’s Literature at Arizona State University. Frank was an elementary school teacher and literacy specialist for 12 years.

Frank has published numerous professional development books, including The Reading Workshop, Lessons in Comprehension, Around the Reading Workshop in 180 Days, and Classroom Reading Assessments. Frank has also written and illustrated a series of nonfiction picturebooks focusing on nature. The Looking Closely Series contains books about the desert, garden, pond, rainforest, shore, and forest. In 2009, Looking Closely Along the Shore won an International Reading Association Teacher’s Choice Award.
