Erin Horvat is associate professor of urban education in the department of teaching and learning at the College of Education, Temple University, in Philadelphia. As a sociologist of education, she aims to use research to illustrate how educational institutions create and reproduce inequality throughout the educational pipeline. As an educational activist and practitioner, she has worked for many years with YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School to provide access to educational opportunity for out-of-school youth. With Carla O’Connor she is the editor of Beyond Acting White: ReFraming the Debate on Black Student Achievement.
