Emery Petchauer is an assistant professor of urban education in the Teacher Development and Educational Studies department at Oakland University. His research focuses on the cultural dimensions of teaching and learning in urban schools and universities as well as teacher development and licensure. An award-winning teacher, he is the author of Hip-Hop Culture in College Students’ Lives: Elements, Embodiment, and Higher Edutainment (Routledge), the first scholarly study of hip-hop culture on college campuses. In addition to these academic pursuits, Dr. Petchauer has over 15 years of experience organizing urban arts spaces across the United States.
