Edward G. Lyon is an associate professor of science education at Sonoma State University and a former high school biology, chemistry, and sheltered learning science teacher. He holds a PhD in science education from the University of California Santa Cruz. Lyon’s scholarship investigates the role of teacher education in supporting how science teachers integrate language, literacy, and science in multilingual classrooms. Dr. Lyon directs and is principal investigator (PI) for the Biliteracy and Content Area Integrated Preparation (BCAIP) Project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. He formerly served as co-PI for the National Science Foundation-funded Secondary Science Teaching with English Language and Literacy Acquisition (SSTELLA) Project. Lyon has published in leading science education journals and cowrote the book Secondary Science Teaching for English Learners: Developing Supportive and Responsive Learning Contexts for Sense-Making and Language Development.
