Edward F. Tobia

Edward F. Tobia (Ed.D., Austin, TX, ed.tobia@gmail.com) currently works at SEDL in the Improving School Performance unit. He has extensive background in school improvement processes, leadership development, and professional development. He has 26 years of experience in public education as an elementary teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary principal, director of elementary curriculum, and director of professional development. His work at SEDL has included coordinating state support for the Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration Program, a 5-year project focusing on helping schools and districts work more systemically, and supporting states’ implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act. He has been the project director for two multiyear projects to assist districts and schools in building the internal capacity of school and district leaders (including teacher leaders) to sustain a systemic improvement process and assist with the design and implementation of an ongoing teacher development process. As a certified Courage to Teach and Courage to Lead facilitator, he has conducted introductory and long-term retreats to renew, sustain, and inspire public school educators.
