David M. Donahue is professor of education and associate provost, Mills College, Oakland, California, where he has worked with teacher credential students preparing to teach art, English, history, and world languages in secondary schools and with graduate students investigating teaching and learning with a focus on equity in urban contexts. He received a BA in history and MAT in social studies from Brown University and an MA in history and PhD in education from Stanford University. He is coeditor with Jennifer Stuart of the book Artful Teaching: Integrating the Arts for Understanding Across the Curriculum, published in 2010 by Teachers College Press, and with Christine Cress of Democratic Dilemmas of Teaching Service Learning: Curricular Strategies for Success, published in 2011.
