David E. Harris is a retired professor of teacher education at the University of Michigan. Before that he was the social studies education director for the school districts of Oakland County, Michigan, and an American history teacher at James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, Wisconsin. With Alan Lockwood of the University of Wisconsin, he co-authored the first edition of Reasoning with Democratic Values. He lives in northern Michigan adjacent to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore with his wife, Marcia, a retired kindergarten teacher. Their children and grandchildren visit often.
