Danielle Apugo, PhD, is a proud Louisiana native who professionally engages the world as an educator, storyteller, and assistant professor of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research highlights African American girls and women’s experiences with navigating race, class, and gender dynamics in education. Dr. Apugo is also faculty expert and founding member of Virgina Commonwealth University’s Disrupting Criminalization in Education iCubed Research Core, where she focuses on the schooling experiences of Black women and girls. Dr. Apugo has a wealth of diverse urban K–12 teaching and leadership experiences throughout the United States. She also has been awarded the Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award by the National Council of Teachers of English.
