Christopher Rappleye

Chair, English and Composition, Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School

Christopher Rappleye is the Ethan A. H. Shepley ‘41 Chair of Distinguished Teaching in English and Composition at the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School in St. Louis, Missouri, where he has taught for over 3 decades. His teaching has been shaped by research in Mind, Brain, and Education science, which has also informed his work as a leader in developing social–emotional learning programming in the Upper School. He received his MFA in writing (poetry) from Washington University and has attended the Kenyon Writer’s Workshop in Fiction. He has taught grades 7 through 12 and coaches varsity boys cross country and middle school track. He has been a reader and workshop consultant for Educational Testing Services for the Advanced Placement Examination in English Literature and Composition and served as a workshop consultant for ACT. His other research interests are driven by teaching senior electives in creativity, the Faust myth, and a life-long interest in the process of meaning making.
