Bob Fecho is a professor of English education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where his work has focused on issues of language, identity, sociocultural perspectives, and dialogical pedagogy as they relate to adolescent literacy among marginalized populations. He is also founding director of the Red Clay Writing Project at the University of Georgia. His recent books, Teaching for the Students: Habits of Heart, Mind, and Practice in the Engaged Classroom (Teachers College Press, 2011) and Writing in the Dialogical Classroom: Students and Teachers Responding to the Texts of Their Lives (NCTE, 2011) provide insight into how to teach in dialogical ways within the constraints of schools dominated by standardization.
