Anne-Lise Halvorsen

Anne-Lise Halvorsen

Associate Professor, Michigan State University

Anne-Lise Halvorsen is an associate professor in the department of teacher education at Michigan State University. Her research and teaching interests are elementary social studies education, historical inquiry, project-based learning, the history of education, the integration of social studies and literacy, and teacher preparation in the social studies. Her publications have appeared in Journal of Curriculum Studies, Teachers College Record, and Theory and Research in Social Education. She is the author of A History of Elementary Social Studies: Romance and Reality (Peter Lang, 2013) and the co-author of Powerful Social Studies for Elementary Students (Cengage, 2012). In 2017, Anne-Lise won the Michigan Council for the Social Studies College Educator of the Year Award. She is a former kindergarten teacher and a former curriculum writer for the State of Michigan. She resides in Detroit, Michigan, with her husband, Bil Lusa, and their three children.
