Alicia López Nieto

Alicia López Nieto

ELL teacher, Massachusetts

Alicia López is an ELL teacher in Massachusetts. Her 23 years in the classroom span two states and three subjects (French, Spanish, and ESL). She has also worked as an administrator and is currently a lecturer in the Professional and Graduate Education program at Mount Holyoke College. Alicia has won several awards for her teaching, including the MTA Louise Gaskins Lifetime Achievement in Civil Rights award (2015), and the 2018 Pat Hunter Award for Outstanding Teacher Leadership from the Western Massachusetts Writing Project. In 2017 she was a finalist for the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Alicia has been writing a blog about teaching (maestrateacher.com) since 2014. She received her B.A. in French and Anthropology from Wellesley College and her Master’s in Bilingual, ESL, and Multicultural Education from the University of Massachusetts. Alicia lives with her husband, three kids, two dogs, and two cats in Amherst.
