Alan L. Lockwood received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is currently a Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Professor Lockwood has written extensively on the topics of Values Clarification, moral education, and character education. In addition to his interests in these topics, he is also the coordinator of secondary teacher education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is directly involved with social studies education.
This volume is based on his many years of research on the general topic of values education and reflects his critical views of the various approaches that have been brought forward. It is his hope that The Case for Character Education will provide guidance for improving the theory and practice of character education programs in the schools.
