Alan Boyle is director of Leannta Education Associates; he designs professional learning for education leaders in the United Kingdom and abroad. Over the last 12 years he has maintained links and annual exchange visits between school districts in England and Ontario. Between 2006 and 2008 he worked as a consultant to help establish Quality Review in NYC. As a researcher, he contributed to the Performance Beyond Expectations project and investigated high-performing organizations in business, education, and sport from 2007–2010. During 2011–2012 he carried out a long-term review of the work of The Learning Trust that was published as A Revolution in a Decade: Ten out of Ten.
Alan started his career as a teacher and spent 20 years in urban classrooms across England teaching students mainly from low-income families. He moved into district administration, working for two inner-city local authorities including seven years as chief inspector in a London borough. He has written science textbooks, many articles in journals and newspapers, and the chapter “Compassionate Intervention” in Engaging Every Learner. He was invited to present the honors lecture at the National Science Teachers Association annual conference in Houston and from time to time presents papers or workshops at AERA and Learning Forward. He enjoys climbing mountains.
