Many of the questions and central issues Ayers raises are timeless, relevant for educators across time and space. Throughout the book, he emphasizes some centrally important understandings about teaching, such as that it is an ongoing process that requires continual reflection and learning. But Ayers also calls our attention to the now of teaching, highlighting how the context of neoliberal educational reform and the deprofessionalization of the teaching profession have shifted public perceptions of teachers, and made the work of liberatory education harder.
